“I know what it feels like to work hard, prepare properly and still have the mental side of performance get in the way.
My role is to help you understand what is holding you back, give you practical tools to work on it, and help you perform more consistently when it matters.”
I’m Alex Smart, a mental performance coach who works with competitive athletes to help them become more confident, focused and consistent when it matters.
Before coaching, I competed as a Great Britain athlete and was part of a World Class Programme. I experienced first hand the pressure, expectations, setbacks and uncertainty that come with competitive sport.
That experience shapes how I coach today.
I don’t believe athletes need endless motivation or generic mindset advice. They need to understand what is affecting their performance, learn practical mental skills, and practise using those skills in the situations that matter.
That is what we work on through 1 to 1 coaching and the Performance Playbook.
Sport taught me that knowing what to do and being able to do it when it matters are two very different things.
Pressure, mistakes, expectations and uncertainty can change how you think, feel and perform.
That’s why my coaching is practical. I want athletes to leave conversations with something they understand, something they can use, and a clear idea of what to work on next.
